The New Groovement is excited to release The Paper as their first single of 2024. The band has channeled some Rage Against the Machine in this funk-rock tune built from the Bari up. With a driving riff led by the low end, the song speaks to living life well and not just in the pursuit of wealth as capitalist society demands.
Shane Blaq’s rhymes are quick and to the point - debt is a tool used to keep people down, and there is no price for your soul.
We hope you enjoy this tune and remember “Don’t live your life for the paper.”

The New Groovement is releasing a soulful ballad this Valentines Day. Recorded at the close of the pandemic, Two Hearts is a story of lost love, and longing. Featuring vocalist Frankie Quinn with The New Groovement’s own Shane Blaq, we hope this song hits you in the feels.

The core of the song was originally written by Baritone Saxophonist Brad Justason while feeling isolated by the pandemic. While it is a departure from the band’s usual sound, after bringing it to Frankie and Shane, the song developed into a song of both loss and hope for the future.

“This band should be bigger than it is...not like, in roster, but in popularity.”

— Ed The Sock

“There is little more fun and exciting around Victoria these days than getting sweaty and dancing your face off to the ripping-good tunes of The New Groovement. These guys bring it, every time they're on stage. And as a music programmer, I've always been grateful their recordings capture much of that great energy as well.”

— Kelly Natkasuka, CBC Radio
